Dignity Action Day: Temporary Accessible Bathroom Solutions That Help People Stay at Home

This week's coming Dignity Action Day is a reminder that how we care matters, especially in the most personal moments.

At PROCare, we believe dignity starts in the everyday spaces, like the bathroom, where people deserve privacy, comfort and control. When a bathroom becomes inaccessible, it is not just inconvenient - it impacts daily life, independence, and dignity.

This is a common challenge across social housing and occupational therapy teams. Sometimes it is urgent, like when someone is being discharged from hospital. Sometimes it is a longer term issue, where a home needs to work better for changing health or mobility.

Our TRU Shower Cubicle with half height Dignity Shower Doors offers a fast, practical response - a temporary accessible bathroom solution that does not look or feel clinical, and helps restore comfort and control at home.

TRU Cubicle - The Temporary Accessible Washroom

A temporary accessible bathroom that works in real homes

The TRU Cubicle is a portable shower for disabled people that can be fitted fast, used straight away, and removed later without damage. It is a smart option when:

  • Someone cannot get upstairs to the main bathroom

  • A full wet room is not feasible

  • The family needs to keep a bath for young children

  • The adaptation is only needed short term – for hospital discharge, palliative care or rehabilitation

It is a self contained shower and WC solution for homes that are hard to adapt.

  • No structural work required

  • Installed in around 2 days

  • Standard size 1200 x 1000mm

  • Available in 1500 x 1500 for tilt chair or similar equipment

  • Pumped waste and macerator options

  • Fully watertight tray and enclosure

  • Installed downstairs, in a bedroom or living space

  • Made in the UK by PROCare

  • Recycle and Store Scheme from PROCare

The cubicle sits fully within the tray, with a 75mm entry height and step in or ramped access. Air assisted doors lift easily and seal shut once closed.

A case study from our OT team

One family needed a safe way to bathe their young child with complex needs. The child could not reach the upstairs bathroom and the parents wanted them nearby overnight. But the downstairs layout was limited, and removing the bath was not an option.

"We looked at the TRU Cubicle as a modular solution that could be placed in the bedroom, on the same level. It meant safer care overnight, no disruption to the main bathroom, and if things changed, the cubicle could be taken out." — Pauline Needle, PROCare OT

This temporary accessible bathroom is not just about access. It is about privacy, comfort, and dignity, in a space that still feels like home.

Who should be using the TRU Cubicle?

This is more than a product for OTs.

  • Housing officers arranging home adaptations

  • Hospice and palliative care teams planning end of life support

  • Care charities like Macmillan supporting families

  • Adaptations contractors and installers who need fast, tidy solutions

Whether it is a short term hospital discharge or a long term change in care needs, this accessible shower enclosure fills the gap.

Looks good. Works better.

This is not just a care product, it's a part of someone’s home.

The TRU Cubicle and Dignity Doors can be personalised:

  • Choose curtain and panel colours

  • Select from silver, black or white frame finishes

  • Use wall boards that feel more homely than clinical

  • Add decoration for children or personal touches to make it familiar

These are small choices that mean a lot, especially when someone is losing control in other parts of their life.

See it for yourself

We encourage occupational therapists, housing teams and care professionals to:

  • Book a demonstration at our showroom

  • Test wheelchair or sani chair access in person

  • Explore layout options and see how the controls work

We believe people should know and chose what's going into their home. That is part of dignity too.
