PROCare's social impact in Wigan and across the UK housing sector

PROCare has always believed that business should mean more than products and invoices.

Yes, we supply accessible bathrooms, wetrooms and adapted kitchens across the UK. Yes, we support more than 20,000 installations each year. And yes, we have grown from a local Wigan family business into a national supplier trusted by housing providers, local authorities, occupational therapists and contractors. But for us, growth has never just been about size, it's always been about people.

That is why community support has become such a big part of who we are as a business. Whether we are helping a housing provider future proof home, supporting a local charity in Wigan, backing inclusive sport or sponsoring local teams, the thinking behind it is always the same. Create environments that help people feel safer, more included and more independent.

PROCare social impact starts in Wigan

PROCare was founded in Wigan in 2001. What started as a local bathroom adaptation supplier has grown into a national business with a 75,000 sq ft facility, nationwide delivery network and thousands of products supporting accessible living across the UK.

Even as we have grown nationally, Wigan has stayed at the centre of everything we do... Many of our team are local, many of our customers are local, and many of the organisations we support are part of everyday life in the town. We believe businesses should put something back into the communities that helped build them.

Supporting Wigan Warriors and local sport

One of the proudest moments for our team was becoming a kit partner for Wigan Warriors. Like PROCare, Wigan Warriors represent resilience, teamwork, pride and community. Sport brings people together across generations. It creates confidence, belonging and local pride. For us, supporting Wigan Warriors was never just about branding on a shirt. It was about backing something that means a huge amount to the people of Wigan. We have also supported local football and grassroots sports initiatives because inclusive sport changes lives.

It gives young people confidence, it supports mental wellbeing, and it creates friendships and opportunities. And importantly, it brings communities together. As a business focused on accessibility and independent living, we understand how important inclusion is both inside and outside the home.

Supporting Louis Telford and inclusive independent living

Louis Telford’s story perfectly reflects why accessible environments matter. Louis is a para athlete from Wigan competing internationally in wheelchair padel and wheelchair basketball. He is also helping grow inclusive sport at grassroots level and supporting younger athletes into adaptive sport.

We are incredibly proud to support him. At PROCare, we work closely with housing providers, occupational therapists and contractors to help deliver accessible homes that feel good to live in.  Louis openly talks about how important good adaptations are for maintaining independence and confidence. That is something we hear every day from residents, carers and occupational therapists. Accessible bathrooms and wetrooms are not just products.

Done properly, they help people:

  • stay independent longer

  • reduce risk of falls

  • maintain dignity

  • support carers

  • remain in their own home

  • feel more confident using their space

This is one of the reasons housing providers and local authorities increasingly focus on future proof bathrooms and proactive adaptation planning.

Supporting The Brick in Wigan

We have also been proud to support local homelessness charity The Brick. The Brick provides practical support to people across Wigan facing poverty, homelessness and crisis. Recently, we helped refurbish bathroom facilities at the charity to create a cleaner, safer and more dignified environment for the people using the service. Bathrooms matter, which sounds simple - but having access to a clean, respectful space can make a huge difference to someone’s wellbeing and confidence.

Why social value matters in housing

Across the housing sector, there is increasing focus on social value. Housing providers are under pressure to deliver:

  • better resident outcomes

  • long term value

  • safer homes

  • faster adaptations

  • reduced hospital discharge delays

  • improved sustainability

  • future proof housing stock

At the same time, occupational therapists and adaptation teams are managing growing demand with stretched resources. This is exactly why PROCare social impact involves launched Fit For Our Future. Our approach focuses on helping housing providers move from reactive adaptations toward earlier intervention and better long term planning.

That includes:

We believe social value should not just sit inside procurement documents, it should show up in real homes. And it should make delivery easier for housing teams, contractors and occupational therapists.

A national supplier with local values

Today, PROCare supports projects across the UK. We work with housing associations, local authorities, contractors and occupational therapists nationwide. Our team supports accessible bathrooms, wetrooms and adapted kitchens at scale.

But despite that national growth, we still try to operate with the same values we started with. That is why winning the Social Impact Award at the North West Family Business Awards meant so much to our team. It recognised something we genuinely care about, not just being a supplier. Being a business that positively contributes to the people and places around it.
