Celebrating Matt Gould and His Work in DFG Home Adaptations
Twenty years of DFG home adaptations, one bathroom at a time. Meet Matt Gould of Gould Adaptions.
Good tradespeople don't just turn up, fit the kit and clear off. They deal with the unexpected. They take pride in leaving a tidy finish. And they never forget that, however many jobs are on the schedule that week, this one's somebody's home.
For National Tradesperson Day, we wanted to give a shout out to Matt & his son Aaron Gould and the team at Gould Adaptions, one of the specialist DFG home adaptations contractors we're proud to work alongside at PROCare.
Matt's been doing accessible bathrooms and home adaptations for around 20 years. He started Gould Adaptions in 2019, and his team now covers much of Suffolk and mid to North Essex, helping people live more safely and independently in their own homes.
We had a catch up with Matt about the work, what makes a job a good one, and why having the right supplier behind you actually matters.
Twenty years of experience delivering DFG home adaptations
Gould Adaptions carries out Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) home adaptations for four councils through Home Improvement Agencies. Wetrooms and level access bathrooms are the bread and butter, alongside ramps, extensions, garage conversions and replacement front doors.
Twenty years in, and Matt knows better than most: what looks fine on a drawing doesn't always turn out that way once you've actually opened the bathroom up.
That's where experience earns its keep. Matt's built proper relationships with the agencies he works with, so if something's off with a spec or a layout, he can just ring up and sort it.
Taking pride in the finished job
One thing that stuck with us talking to Matt was how much he cares about the room he leaves behind.
He likes meeting the people whose homes he's working in. Likes seeing what a proper accessible bathroom or wetroom actually does for someone's day to day.
As Matt put it: “At the end of the day, this is people’s homes.”
He told us about a recent job where his team tiled an extra wall just so the whole room matched. Better finish for the resident, and easier for her to keep clean, too.
That says something about a tradesperson. It's not about getting the shower running and legging it to the next job. It's about leaving someone with a bathroom they can actually use, keep on top of, and feel alright in.
Finding the right products for DFG home adaptations
Matt started working with PROCare after visiting our showroom to have a proper look. Since then, Gould Adaptions has been fitting our showers, taps, grab rails, basins, toilets and shower trays on its home adaptation projects.
Our basins have gone down particularly well. Matt likes the design and reckons they're good value for the work his team's doing.
For a contractor doing DFG home adaptations week in, week out, that balance is everything. Products must suit the resident, meet the spec, and be worth the money without cutting corners.
Matt also told us the PROCare products his team has fitted have been signed off by the home improvement agency overseeing the work. That gives him the confidence to use more of our range going forward.

Matt orders through his online GOPRO Trade account, finds what he needs, checks his trade prices, gets it ordered. No messing about!
And if something's urgent, he knows he can ring us direct. Matt put it better than we could: “You get suppliers who'll sell you anything and then disappear. PROCare's not like that. They actually know my business, so when I ring up, I'm not explaining myself from scratch every time. And my trade account just works. I can order at ten o'clock at night if I need to, prices are there, stock's there, done. On a DFG job, when the council want it fitted yesterday, that speed matters as much as the product does.”
Here's to the tradespeople delivering DFG home adaptations across the country
